Glenville winter rules to know
The Town of Glenville has a few winter rules that affect how you use your driveway. Here's a quick summary, with links to the official sources.
Overnight parking ban, November 15 – April 1
Parking is banned on all town roads from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m., November 15 through April 1 (Town Code §255-6B), with fines starting at $20. With cars off the street overnight, more of them end up in driveways, and our operators clear around parked cars.

No street parking after 3 inches of snow
After a snowfall of more than 3 inches, parking on or along town roads is banned (Town Code §255-6A). The town's Winter Operations page says the ban lasts 48 hours, and vehicles can be towed at the owner's expense.

Don't push snow into the road
New York Vehicle & Traffic Law §1219 makes it illegal to throw or deposit snow on a public highway, and the town highlights the rule on its Winter Operations page. Our snowblowers throw snow onto your property, not into the street.

Plow damage to mailboxes and lawns
Town crews repair lawns damaged by town plows each spring, without a call. The town repairs or replaces a mailbox only when inspection shows its snow removal caused the damage, using a standard metal box on a pressure-treated post.

Sidewalks within 24 hours
Outside a town sidewalk district, property owners must clear snow and ice from adjoining sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow stops falling (Town Code §221-6C).

Do you serve all of Glenville?
We serve the eastern side of town, within about 4 miles of our base in East Glenville: East Glenville, Alplaus, High Mills, Thomas Corners, the Glenridge Road area and the Village of Scotia. West Glenville is outside our route area. Send us your address and we'll confirm.
Can I leave my car in the driveway during the overnight parking ban?
Yes, and you'll need to: town roads are closed to parking from 3 to 6 a.m., November 15 to April 1. Our operators clear around parked vehicles, staying about 2 feet away. Park as far to the top or side of the driveway as you can.
What if the town plow blocks my driveway after you've cleared it?
Contact us and we'll make a return visit to clear it at no additional charge.
Is it legal to blow driveway snow into a Glenville road?
No. New York Vehicle & Traffic Law §1219 prohibits depositing snow on a public highway, and the Town of Glenville reminds residents of it every winter. We throw snow onto your property, clear of the road.
