The hamlet is part of the Town of Ballston, which has some of the strictest winter parking rules around: no parking on the pavement or shoulder of any town road, at any hour, from November 1 through April 1. That means your driveway holds every car in the household all winter. Our operators clear around parked vehicles, staying about 2 feet away.
Ballston's code also makes throwing snow onto a highway a misdemeanor, with fines of up to $1,000. With a snowblower, the snow goes onto your property, not into the road.

Burnt Hills winter rules to know
Burnt Hills follows Town of Ballston rules. Here are the ones that affect your driveway:
No parking on town roads, November 1 – April 1
Town Code §125-8 bans stopping, standing or parking on the pavement or shoulder of any town road from November 1 through April 1, at all hours, not just overnight. Violations are traffic infractions with fines of up to $150 for a first offense.

Throwing snow on a road is a misdemeanor
Town Code §96-7E prohibits throwing or depositing snow on any highway, and §96-8 makes it a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000. State law (VTL §1219) prohibits it too.

Keeping mailboxes clear is up to you
The town repairs mailboxes damaged by its plows and replaces damaged posts in the spring, but says keeping mailboxes clear of snow is the homeowner's responsibility.
No basketball hoops in the right-of-way
Town rights-of-way are 50 to 60 feet wide on most town highways. Portable basketball hoops are prohibited there, and the town isn't responsible for damage to hoops left by the road.

Where do I park during the Town of Ballston winter parking ban?
In your driveway. From November 1 to April 1, parking on the pavement or shoulder of town roads is banned at all hours. Our operators clear around parked cars; park as far to the top or side of the driveway as you can.
Why does the plow bury the end of my driveway?
Plows push snow to the side as they pass, which leaves a ridge across driveway entrances. Saratoga County's plow FAQ suggests piling snow on the right side of your driveway when you dig out. With RAD, if the plow blocks your driveway after we've cleared it, contact us and we'll come back at no charge.
What should I move off my driveway before the season?
Anything our tractors could hit: planters, recycling bins, garbage cans, toys, extension cords and basketball hoops. The Town of Ballston also prohibits portable hoops in the road right-of-way.
